Certain items such as sunglasses, sunscreen, re-usable water-bottles, medications, light-weight camera, electronics & chargers and the necessary documents should be packed, irrespective of anywhere you go. Take along a highly adventurous and spirited mind wherever you go. Respect the local ethics.
Wildlife vacation
A good camera with powerful zoom, binoculars, a hand fan, mosquito-repellent, full pants, leech-repellent socks, poncho, bandana are necessary, if you go on a wildlife vacation. Pack these before taking flights to Detroit from UK, to go to the Detroit river trip. Opt for greens & browns and dull coloured clothing, sturdy boots, and plenty of water.
Deserts
The must-haves for a trip in deserts are electrolyte replacements, extra-brimmed hats, plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, long-sleeved cotton shirts, a mirror, a GPS, a back-up map, a compass and multi-tools as well. Pack mittens, down-jacket, & a matchbox for the nights in deserts.
Rainy places
You have to pack hooded rain-coats, rain-boots, umbrellas, some waterproof pouches & a flashlight or headlamp in a hard-shell suit-case, if you take cheap flights to Chicago. Also pack lightweight & compact clothes and towels which dries very quickly. Cases for your camera, cell phone and laptop must be water proof. Avoid jeans.
Beaches
When you go to the beach, wear sunscreen, SPF lip balm, a large hat & shades to protect against the sun. Also wear beach wear and flip-flops/sandals when you go to the shore. Wear a tank and shorts or maxi dress if you do not want to take a dip in the water. Take all of your stuff to the beach in a canvas beach tote. Do not forget to pack a beach towel, after-beach lotion and hair conditioners before visiting the beaches on business class flights to San Diego. Sharks see contrast colours. Steer clear of yellow, white coloured bathing suits or black and white, wherever there’s possibility of sharks moving around.
Mountains
Don’t forget to pack comfortable and durable athletic gear and hiking boots; if you plan to hike. Pack a raincoat and warm jackets for the evenings. Take along a swimsuit for bathing/swimming in the mountain rivers/lakes. Bring along extra socks, cap/hat, and a light back-pack.
Very cold places
Pack layers and a full merino wool-base layer, if you take flights to Winnipeg. Pack a hat, scarf or knit mask to cover face and mouth, sweaters with sleeves that are snug at the wrist, mittens (they’re warmer than gloves), fleece-lined leggings, a pair of jeans, warm scarves, several layers of loose-fitting clothing, water-resistant coat and boots.
Remember to pack smart and light.
